Window on the Wetlands Site EOI
The Department of Environment, Parks and Water Security is is inviting Expressions of Interest (EOI) from interested parties to provide ongoing management of the Window on the Wetlands site, located on the Arnhem Highway near the Adelaide River crossing.
This opportunity for private management arrangements of the Window on the Wetlands site suits a commercial operator or joint venture partnership looking to broaden their commercial operations at a key tourism site.
The infrastructure at the site provides an opportunity for the development of new private commercial tourism products across the two levels of the building. The spacious upper floor boasts superb views across the floodplains. Previous uses have included a café and small theatre. The lower level was used as a Visitor Centre housing interactive displays of northern coastal wetlands, ecological and seasonal processes, Top End wildlife, with local Aboriginal and European history.
With over 200,000 visitors annually to Kakadu, Mary River and Djukbinj National Parks and many other visitors travelling to Arnhem Land or beyond, there is significant potential to tap into one of the core markets of Northern Territory tourism, the drive market or offer something completely new and different.
This is an opportunity for the successful proponent to utilise existing infrastructure to develop new and unique tourism ventures or experiences, provide opportunities for Aboriginal employment or contracting of Aboriginal owned enterprises, offer food and beverage services and much more.
