Have you bought Melon Sword from Bunnings?

Sagittaria (Sagittaria platyphylla), also known as Arrowhead is an aquatic weed that has recently been sold as the Melon Sword (Echinodorus osiris) and/or Tibouchina coolbaby.

At least 28 plants have been sold from Bunnings Palmerston and Bunnings Darwin during August and September 2016.

There is no known sagittaria established in the Northern Territory.

In order to protect our wetlands from sagittaria all plants are being recalled and fully refunded.

If you believe that you have purchased or have seen sagittaria please:

  • Immediately call the Weed Management Branch on 8999 4567
  • Organise to return the plant to the store of origin for a full refund taking appropriate precautions to prevent spread.
  • Do not attempt to destroy or dispose of the plant.
