Have Your Say on draft decisions to manage chemicals

Published

The Australian Government, through the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water, is seeking feedback on proposed regulatory scheduling decisions for managing eight chemicals under the Industrial Chemicals Environmental Management Standard (IChEMS).

Your input will inform consistent national standards for chemicals.

Consultation on the proposed decisions opens on 9 November 2022.

The decisions are for three chemicals of high concern to the environment, listed on the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants, plus another five chemicals of lower concern.

The high concern chemicals include hexabromobiphenyl (HBB), hexachlorobutadiene (HCBD) and polychlorinated naphthalenes (PCN). A previous call for information indicates that these chemicals are no longer used in Australia.

The chemicals of low concern are currently used in Australia in cosmetics, printing and coating or automotive oils.

While open to the public, this Have Your Say process is most relevant to chemical importers, manufacturers and users and the hazardous waste industry.

To find out more, visit the Department’s IChEMS page before submissions close on 7 December 2022
