Territory Natural Resource Management Conference
Staff from Flora and Fauna and Rangelands Divisions ran a workshop at the Territory Natural Resource Management (TNRM) conference on Tuesday 21 November.
Flora and Fauna and Rangelands Workshop
Forty people from a very broad range of stakeholder groups attended the workshop titled Unlocking Biodiversity Insights – data and information. The goals of the workshop were to increase participant awareness of the data and information available on line, ensure that people knew how to access and interact with the information and for us to gain some insight into the relevance of this data to the work of our stakeholders and identify any key gaps.
The workshop focussed on themes with demonstrations of how to access data and information on these themes, with time provided for participants to use the online applications within the workshop to have a go at accessing the data themselves. Gemma Henry from Geospatial gave a crash course in NRMaps, before James Hall and Dominque Lynch demonstrated the plethora of vegetation and soil resources available and how to access it through NRMaps. Brydie Hill provided a brief run through of the on-line information on Marine Ecosystems. Caroline Chong presented on Threatened Species showing participants how to navigate their way through the diverse information available and how to download area specific species information. Louis Elliot covered all things Flora NT and impressed the participants with his explanations on plant species name changes.
The workshop was a great success, with a few information gaps were identified. All participants were impressed with the breadth and depth of information covered and the knowledge of the presenters. The key take home message was – we want more workshops like this!

Territory Wildlife Park
Jasmine was recognised for her work on the Territory Wildlife Parks’ Artist in the Park program over the past 12 years. Jasmine draws on her established networks to bring together established artists, novice artists and community members to increase knowledge of environmental issues. She has involved hundreds of participants in community education programs, bringing together scientists, researchers, schools and the public. Well done Jasmine!
Collaborative Research for NRM Award

Charles Darwin University, James Cook University, Parks and Wildlife and Marine Parks, Parks Australia
A collaboration has provided the basis for developing a culturally-driven framework for protection and management of values in the Marra’s Limmen Bight Marine Park and Yanyuwa Sea Country.
The project involved the mapping and documentation of marine benthic habitats through aerial and boat surveys and has resulted in on-Country identification and protection of important and endangered species.
