In an exciting step towards a single-use plastic free future for the Northern Territory, 15 cafes are participating in a trial to change the way Territorians drink their favourite morning brew.
The trial will see cafes replace throwaway coffee cups with a barista-designed, reusable alternative, saving around 52,500 cups from being thrown in the bin!
The Department of Environment, Parks and Water Security is supporting a trial by The Good Good Way to bring the reuse system to Northern Territory cafes at no cost during June and July. This will enable cafes to receive the specially designed, reusable cups at no charge and staff training and support.
When you visit your favourite café, you’ll be able to borrow a cup and lid for a $3 deposit which can be refunded at any participating location.
The system delivers environmental benefits by reducing the amount of single use plastics that will be thrown away and enter landfill or pollute the Northern Territory environment. The system will deliver cost savings to business by reducing the number of single use cups and lids cafes need to purchase. In addition to this benefit,
