Grass Fire Unit (GFU)

Published

Since 2019 Bushfires NT has been working towards establishing a standardised Grass Fire Unit (GFU) as part of a replacement program.

In 2020 and 2021 the first 6 GFU prototypes were built and brigades were provided an opportunity to test and inspect these and provide their feedback. Based on feedback the GFU layout and functionality was adjusted and a cabin fire curtain was included.

Bushfires NT is proud to release the Gen-Next GFU which is designed to fulfil ergonomic and Work Health and Safety principles, while continuing to provide an effective firefighting capability.

Gen-Next is equipped with radios and emergency lights, canvas seat covers, a 43 litre domestic esky, shovel, fire extinguisher, bolt cutters, an axe, tool kit, drip torch, rake hoe, stand pipe & key, first aid kit, heavy duty jumper leads, 5ml grey suction hose with camlock fitting and foot valve.

Brigades receiving new vehicles include Acacia Hills, Bachelor, Adelaide River, Tortilla Flats (BART), Berry Springs, Darwin River, Dundee, Elizabeth Valley each receive a new vehicle, with Katherine receiving two 4WDs.
