State of the water resources 2022-23 for Berry Springs and Katherine

Published

The department has developed status reports, which provides information about the water resource during 2022-23 in the Berry Springs and Katherine water allocation plan areas. These reports provide an overview of the water resource, explain how the resource is tracking, and the management actions that have been undertaken in each area.

The reports provide a snapshot of rainfall in the area, ground water levels, and the relationship between the two being aquifer recharged. The reports also show both the predicted and the measured water monitoring results for creek flows at the end of the dry season, demonstrating the accuracy of the department’s models, and ensuring the plan is managing the health of the resource based on the best available scientific information.

The reports summarise the regulatory activities that have occurred over the last year, including recovery of unused water; issuing of water licences in the plan area; and summarising compliance statistics. The department endeavours to have an annual state of the water resource report completed for all water allocation plan areas for the 2024-25 reporting period.
