Zone 8: Buffalo Creek

Water quality in Buffalo Creek was poor. Indicators of dissolved oxygen and water clarity did not comply with Water Quality Objectives. Algal biomass and nutrients were also high in this system.

About Buffalo Creek

Buffalo Creek is a small tidal creek in the Shoal Bay receives discharge from the Leanyer-Sanderson wastewater treatment plant.

The creek is poorly flushed and discharge is not readily dispersed, causing a build-up of nutrients and excessive algal growth.

A small area of the newly established suburb of Muirhead also drains towards Buffalo Creek delivering urban stormwater during the wet season.
