Planning for the Georgina Wiso Basins
The Georgina Wiso Water Allocation Plan 2022-2030 is located within the Daly Roper Beetaloo Water Control District.
The plan applies to the Georgina Basin and Wiso Basin which are groundwater resources that overlay the Beetaloo Sub-basin and part of the regionally extensive Cambrian limestone aquifer.
The plan applies to an area of approximately 155,000 km2 extending about 600km from North to south, and 500km east to west.
Pastoral leases cover about 85 per cent of the land with approximately 13 percent of the plan area recognised as Aboriginal land.
The Plan area includes the towns of Daly Waters, Elliott and Newcastle Waters and smaller communities of Jangirulu, Likkaparta, Marlinja and Mutunugurra.
