Have your say on the Western Davenport WAP

Published

The Department of Environment, Parks and Water Security (DEPWS) is seeking feedback to inform the review of the Western Davenport Water Allocation Plan (WAP) 2018 to 2021.

The WAP commenced in December 2018 with the four principal objectives being to:

  • Protect the environmental water requirements
  • Maintain public water supply
  • Support Aboriginal cultural values and local Aboriginal economic development
  • Support sustainable use of through regional economic development

The Western Davenport WAP applies to an area of almost 24,500 square kilometres located approximately 150 kilometres south of Tennant Creek in the Northern Territory.

The Western Davenport WAP guides water management in the plan area and a new 10 year WAP is required to continue the management of water resources in the water control district.

DEPWS will prepare a review report at the conclusion of the consultation process that will inform the preparation of the new WAP.

The survey period ends on Friday 29 October 2021.

A draft of the new WAP will be released for public comment early next year.
