Water Advisory Committee Call for Nominations

Published

The Department of Environment, Parks and Water Security is inviting Expressions of Interest (EOIs) for membership on the Western Davenport and Ti Tree Water Advisory Committee.

Community involvement is integral to the water planning process across the Northern Territory.

The committees’ role will be to provide advice on the implementation and effectiveness of the Western Davenport Water Allocation Plan 2018-21 and its renewal, as well as advice on the implementation and effectiveness of the Ti Tree Water Allocation Plan 2020-30.

The current Western Davenport Plan expires 6 December 2021 and a new plan is required to be declared before then. The Ti Tree Plan is required to be reviewed before 16 February 2025.

Plans are developed in regions where there are competing demands for water, there is risk from water use on significant environmental or cultural values, or a need to manage the whole system (surface water and groundwater reserves) due to their significant inter-connection.

Water Allocation Plans aim to protect the environment and cultural values, and share the available water between users, to ensure the long term sustainability of the water resource.

Being on a Water Advisory Committee enables you to represent the views of your community and key stakeholders to maximise the economic and social benefits within the ecological restrains.

To view the Western Davenport and Ti Tree WAC’s terms of reference or submit your Expression of Interest before the 16 August 2021 deadline, go to https://depws.nt.gov.au/water/water-management/water-allocation-plans/western-davenport-water-allocation-plan
