Water quality and quantity studies for Beetaloo Sub-basin
Water quality and quantity studies aim to understand both surface and groundwater.
To establish a baseline for surface and groundwater, it is important to understand:
- rainfall and evaporation
- the source, location and longevity of surface water
- the underlying geology and which formations hold groundwater (aquifers)
- the source, depth, movement and amount of groundwater
- the quality of groundwater and surface water
- how surface and groundwater interacts.
This information informs the development of hydrological models which are important tools to understand how water systems operate and manage the sustainable use of water.
